Our Students

Hear first-hand from students currently enrolled at SEDA College NT.

At SEDA College we pride ourselves on sharing our College's success as well as our students, below are several testimonials from our students.

SEDA College NT offers a variety of activities and projects that align with my interests in sports management and coaching. I say this as I’ve been able to choose a work placement around sports coaching at Anula Primary School, which allows me to explore this field in depth. The College has given me the opportunity to gain practical experiences, allowing me to work on real-world projects that match my interests for the future.

One of the most impactful projects SEDA requires for me is organising clinic plans for community schools once every week. Since I’m passionate about teaching sports, this project allowed me to apply my skills in event planning and coordination. It not only enhanced my understanding of sports management but also gave me hands-on experience that I can use in my future career.

SEDA College NT always encourages community engagement through various projects during and after school. As I mentioned before we regularly partner with local schools to run sports programs for kids. Personally, this involvement has helped me build connections and helped me with experience in the education area I wish to fulfil in the future, whilst giving back to our community.

SEDA College NT’s teachers and staff help encourage me with my self-directed learning by allowing me and my peers to choose projects and research topics that are of interest to us. We’re given the freedom and support to set our own goals and deadlines within reason, which helps me develop time management and problem-solving skills. The support from teachers with the curriculum available also guides me in my independent learning journey and makes me feel motivated and encouraged to learn.

As the college focuses on giving real-world experiences and helps us gain problem-solving skills it has assisted in preparing me to handle setbacks, teaching me to approach challenges with a positive mindset and resilience despite how big or small. For example, after a clinic didn’t go as planned, the feedback received from my teacher and reflection process helped me learn from the experience and apply the lessons to challenges in the future.

My work placement with Anula Primary School has been a significant learning experience as I’ve been there for 2 years during my time at SEDA. It allowed me to apply what I’ve learnt during clinics as week by week my knowledge expands. I’ve built professional relationships and gained an understanding of the day-to-day operations of being a sports teacher. This experience has greatly boosted my confidence and given me pre-practical experience if I follow the path of teaching which I’m grateful for.

SEDA College allows us to do a range of different opportunities that line up with my interests and allow me to do different things that I enjoy, for example, our work placement. I get to go to primary schools and work with kids inside the classroom to develop their learning. SEDA also allows me to do things that involve a sport that I love to do which is netball.

SEDA encourages different opportunities outside of the classroom and in the community where we go to primary schools and develop students' skills in certain sports from our own knowledge of the sport and the experiences we have had with SEDA.

SEDA College helps me a lot more than my old school did because we have only one teacher and we can work one-on-one with them at any time and get help without them being distracted by anything else.

One challenge that I have faced with my previous school work is with certain due dates for assessments, not being able to get them in on time and always having to try to get them done as quickly as possible. While being at SEDA even if I don’t finish my assessments on time I still have chances to finish them during school and not do it at home. I can take my time to complete them while I have the help of my teacher.

My work placement at Gray Primary School allows me to interact with younger kids and have fun with them whilst also helping them learn and develop their skills inside of the classroom and learning about different ways to help certain kids if they are unable to do it one certain way.

SEDA College NT has allowed me to focus on my school work but also focus on my passion, which is playing sports. While at SEDA I have been able to choose where I complete my work placement and being able to do that has allowed me to see and explore what is out there. I’ve got to experience what it is like to work in various workplaces this year.

The College has encouraged me to engage with the community by connecting with Primary Schools, this involvement helps me realise what it is like to be a coach and how much fun it can be.

At SEDA College we are allowed to choose and research topics that interest us, we are allowed to set our own goals and choose a deadline for submissions approved by our teacher. With the support from the SEDA staff, we are guided to start our independent journey.

One of the challenges I faced going into SEDA was having my work submitted on time. While at SEDA I have been given one-on-one support to get through my work. SEDA has also helped me with the skill of time management which has assisted me to be organised and manage my workload.

At SEDA College NT one of the most impactful experiences so far is being able to undertake work placement because it relates to my future, and I get the opportunity to explore what I want to be doing as a future career. I have had the opportunity to work with a plumber and an electrician which has been great because it is what I would like to do in the future.

SEDA has helped me engage with the community by planning and delivering clinics with my class every Tuesday. We also help out with sports gala days, athletics and swimming carnivals and other school sporting events.

The College has helped me by learning about real-world situations and problem-solving. Whenever I’ve struggled with my assessments, I’ve applied the problem-solving skills I learned at SEDA, approaching each challenge with an open and positive mindset.

My work placement with NT Plumbing has helped me build good relationships with other employees and has helped me build my physical and mental resilience as I am spending all day in the sun and the heat to get the job done.

SEDA College NT helps me follow my interests and passions through education as they offer a range of activities and projects that interest me by aligning with various sports. For example, I have been able to work with my local AFL Club and other sporting clubs as well as a sports store.

Working on community-based projects, during our sporting clinics with Driver Primary School, has shown me that even on a bad day all the kids look forward to doing sport and giving it their best. This always motivates me to give more energy and bring the mood up so the kids have lots of fun.

During a school clinic, we faced a small problem some of the kids weren't listening. I took the initiative and solved the problem by asking them to stop talking and mucking around and if they continued their teacher would be made aware. The College is always trying to improve our practical problem-solving skills and supporting us in understanding how to handle these situations in the best way possible.

A challenge I have faced during my time at SEDA College is having to overcome my fear of catching buses. The College has helped me face this fear by providing me with a way to control my anxiety to a lower level by putting my headphones in to cancel out as much noise and to breathe in and out slowly. This has helped me catch the bus to school, clinics, work placement, and other school activities without being worried.

My work placement role with Tennis NT has greatly improved my skills in working within the sporting industry. They have provided many opportunities for me to gain experience and expand my skills such as assisting with setting up for tournaments and officiating tennis matches. Tennis NT has also supported and taught me how to provide great customer service and operate the kiosk at the Tennis centre.
